Unique Student Identifier

If you are planning to enrol at CIT you will need an Australian Government Unique Student Identifier (USI). You cannot enrol or graduate without one unless you are studying a non-accredited or higher education course as these courses are exempt from requiring a USI. However, if you are enrolling into a non-accredited or higher education course without a USI, you will not be able to enrol online, you will need to complete a paper enrolment form.

What is a USI?

A USI is your individual education number for life. It also gives you an online record of your VET training undertaken in Australia.

If you're at CIT or doing other nationally recognised training, you need a USI. Without one, you can't get Commonwealth financial assistance or your qualification.

Don't have one? You can apply now, it only takes 2 minutes! Go to

Already have one? Great! Verify it in our student administration system now so your enrolment or graduation isn't delayed.

1. Login to CIT Self Service – cit.edu.au/selfservice

2. Click on the link for USI

3. Verify your USI

It's important that your first name, surname and date of birth in our student system match the ID you use to create your USI (eg if you are Christopher in USI database and Chris at CIT your USI will not verify)

If the verification doesn't work then check your first name, surname and date of birth details in CIT Self Service. If they don't match your ID either change the details through the USI website OR complete a CIT personal details variation form and submit it at any CIT location or email it along with a copy of your ID to infoline@cit.edu.au.

If you need assistance with creating your USI, visit any CIT Student Services location, CITSA office, or call (02) 6207 3188.
